More than 1500 Cars to go on Display in Silverstone
Classic Paddock
22 June 2006
With just six weeks to go until the 2006 Silverstone Classic circuit
bosses have announced that the event will feature a staggering line
up of Classic Car displays as interest in the event, from both car clubs
and private owners, continues to build at a substantial rate. Up to
1,500 cars are expected to be displayed in the centre of the world famous
circuit, on each day of the prestigious three day event, taking place
on the last weekend in July (28-30 July).
Free access to the open paddock will enable spectators to get up close
and personal to some of the most valuable and sought after racing cars
ever built. In addition to the spectacular machinery that will be competing
on the original Historic Grand Prix circuit, with its fast Abbey and
Club corners, more than 51 car clubs will be hosting displays that will
transport Silverstone back to a bygone era.
Besides Club Triumph, the Ferrari Owners Club, GT40 Enthusiasts, Maserati,
Porsche, MG and numerous other car clubs, the BMW Car Club has organised
one of the UK’s largest ever gatherings of the iconic BMW 328
- successful in many classic events including the Mille Miglia and the
Le Mans 24 Hours - to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its introduction.
Thirty 328’s and a selection of other pre-war BMW’s will
also be on display.
Aston Martin Racing will be officially supporting this year’s
Classic, as Silverstone celebrates the 50th anniversary of Aston Martin’s
DBR1 racing car. A number of Aston Martin DBR9, DBRS9 and prototype
race cars will be taking part in the event, while a special Aston Martin
Racing display will host exclusive interview and autograph sessions
with works drivers. Demonstration pit stops and practice starts will
also take place on the circuit’s National Straight.
Out on track, six decades of Grand Prix motor racing will form the
centrepiece of the much loved annual festival. For the second year running,
the cars that made Formula One history (from the 1930s through to the
1980s) will compete in a single event, supported by a superb line-up
that boasts Le Mans Sportscars, Saloon, Sports and Touring Cars. As
a new addition for 2006, there will also be racing from classic 750cc,
and unlimited cc Motorcycles.
The remarkable story of the evolution of Grand Prix racing will be
told in a series of races for classic F1 cars, many of which were raced
by the finest drivers in the sport's history. The event will be a celebration
of international motor racing as Silverstone echoes to the sound of
classic cars.
There will also be plenty to keep families entertained away from the
track. Air displays, classic racing motorcycle displays, trade stalls
and a period fun fair will also feature, adding to the festival atmosphere.
Tickets for the 2006 Silverstone Classic have been priced at an attractive
£15 per day if booked in advance (£20 on the day). A special
