Scuderia Ecosse on the British GT Fightback
11
July 2006
The last time Scuderia Ecosse raced at Snetterton, the team won both
races, beating the Gruppe M Porsche after an epic battle by only 39/1000ths
of a second. This time around Chris Niarchos and Tim Mullen are out
to make sure that history repeats itself. The team put a difficult weekend
in Ireland behind them with a classy win in the Oschersleben FIA GT
round, but it is vital that the Ferrari comes out on top at Snetterton.
Chris Niarchos: "I didn't race at Snetterton in the 2004
British GT rounds but I know the track well, in fact my first ever race
in a Ferrari was there, back in 2003. Not being able to compete at Mondello
was the most frustrating moment of my racing career so I'm very
much looking forward to getting back out there and putting things right.
Tim and I know what we need to do and we're ready for anything
LNT can throw at us!"
Tim Mullen: "The fast corners and late braking areas at Snetterton
will really suit the Ferrari and I'm hopeful that we can win there.
The only thing stopping us is the tyres but Avon have come up with something
new for us to try this week so we'll concentrate our attention
on that and hope we can get back to winning in British GTs."
Stewart Roden, Team Principal: "As Tim says we have a new tyre
to test on Thursday at Snetterton so I hope that is a success. Mondello
was a dreadful weekend for us but then we went out and finished 1st
and 3rd at Oschersleben so the Irish race has been put to the back of
our minds. We're behind LNT at the moment and that is not where
we want to be so we will be pushing hard to get back on top."
Going the extra mile! The Scuderia Ecosse team will be joining the
other British GT and Formula 3 teams in the Sport Relief Mile at Snetterton,
running (or walking!) the last mile of the track for charity on Saturday
at 1830hrs. The teams will be joined by journalists, spectators, sponsors,
photographers, caterers and event promoters, totaling at least 500 people,
all out there for a good cause."
