Taylor Takes Volkswagen Racing Cup Title
01
October 2006
Paul Taylor is the 2006 Volkswagen Racing Cup champion. The 41-year-old
from Hertfordshire claimed the title at Thruxton this weekend despite
being denied season-closing victories at the wheel of his four-wheel-drive
Golf R32.
A fourth-place finish yesterday (Saturday) and seventh in today's final
round was enough for Taylor to finish the job he started with a win
at Oulton Park in April, and Paul was delighted: "It's a great
feeling… As with all motor racing, there have been ups and downs
throughout the season. It's fantastic to have got the job done."
After his Oulton success, further victories followed for Taylor at Donington
Park and Snetterton, which he capped with twin wins at Silverstone a
week ago to bring his victory tally to five from 12 races. He also claimed
a brace of second place finishes at Brands Hatch.
Backing from Taylor's Heating, Alpha Boilers, Revo Technik and
Big Boys Toys helped put Paul on the top step of the championship podium.
He plans to return to the series in 2007 to defend his title. "I
have every intention of coming back to have another go, even though
the competition is getting tougher all the time."
Taylor started racing in karts at age eight and, after a spell in rallying,
turned to saloon car racing in 1999. He was the Stock Hatch champion
in 2003.
The Volkswagen Racing Cup in association with Hankook enjoys the additional
support of Augustus Martin, Castrol, ECM Vehicle Delivery, Europcar,
Milltek Sport, Mondial Assistance, KW Automotive, Superchips, TNT Logistics,
Turbo Dynamics, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Volkswagen Financial
Services UK.
