Snetterton and Silverstone Events to Feature Two-Hour British GT Races

February 2007
Snetterton and Silverstone have each been selected
to host a two-hour feature race for the 2007 Avon Tyres British GT
Championship instead of the usual two 60-minute events.
Following
the success of the end of season finale last September, Silverstone
will once again stage one of the longer races on August 12th, with
Snetterton becoming the host circuit for the other feature race on
June 3rd.
Last year Snetterton was the scene of the hottest races of
the season, with the teams and drivers basking in the Mediterranean
style sunshine. The long flowing Norfolk circuit is the ideal place
to hold a longer race, with the added drama of mid race fuel stops.
With GT3 class cars such as Ascari, Dodge Viper, Ferrari, Porsche and
Aston Martin battling for the overall British GT title this season,
the 2-hour mini endurance event will be a big draw for the fans in
East Anglia.
“Thanks to the promotion of the event, British GT raced in front
of a large crowd last year and with the added excitement of seeing
supercar brands such as Aston Martin, Ascari, Ferrari, Porsche and
Lamborghini battling it out for two hours, we’re confident the
attendance will be even better this year.” said British GT Championship
Coordinator Benjamin Franassovici. “Holding the first 2-hour
race of the 2007 season at Snetterton in June, we are hopeful that
the race day will have similar weather to the sunshine we enjoyed there
in 2006.”
Over twenty confirmed entries for the 2007 Avon Tyres British GT Championship
have been received, with at least thirty cars expected for the first
race of the season at Oulton Park at Easter.
