GT4 European Cup Gets Underway in Nogaro
08 March 2007
This week saw the GT4 European Cup get underway at the Paul Armagnac
circuit in Nogaro, France, with the first performance balancing tests
of some of the cars due to take part in this year's series.
Four different models of car were presented for testing : the Ford
Mustang FR 500 GT, Nissan 350 Evo, Lotus Sport Exige and Aston Martin
Vantage N24. They were put through their paces by multi-talented Belgian
driver Kurt Mollekens, who is the nominated test driver for the series,
fulfilling a similar task to that undertaken by Christophe Bouchut
with the FIA GT3 European Championship.
The tests were supervised by Kurt van Campenhout, who is the Technical
Director of the new series. Both Mollekens and van Campenhout were
pleased with the outcome of the tests, the performances of the various
cars proving to be very similar.
Three further makes of car are currently being prepared, and should
be ready to join the next test session. These include the Maserati
Trofeo, BMW Z4 and Porsche Cayman.
Other projects should see the Audi TT and Opel GT ready to join the
series during 2007.
The inaugural season will get underway at Silverstone on May 5th and
6th, with two 30-minute races. The season continues with races in Oschersleben,
Spa, Adria and Nogaro, all within the FIA GT Championship meetings.
