SEAT Cupra Challengers Plan to Attack at Croft

24 May 2007

The 2007 Blaupunkt SEAT Cupra Championship heads to Croft with plenty of the drivers desperate to make up points. In the New Leon class Jonathan Adam (Total Control Racing) has proved that consistency is the key… consistency when it comes to putting in winning performances anyway. So far this season he has looked rock solid taking wins in four of the six rounds so far and getting onto the podium for the other two. But he won’t sit back and relax as he knows there are plenty of drivers behind him that are waiting for him to slip up.

Carl Breeze (Blue Chip/CMS Motorsport), a pre-season tip for the title, has had his fair share of problems particularly at Rockingham. He’ll definitely be looking to make amends at Croft as will Alan Blencowe (Triple R) who had some power loss problems at Thruxton yet still manages to be third in the championship. Gareth Nixon (Nixon Motorsport) and Fulvio Mussi (Total Control Racing) both look to be finding their feet now too. They know they’re quick enough to get on the podium in every race and will be looking for every opportunity to make sure they are. Likewise Neil Waterworth (Total Control Racing) has had a taste of the podium now and will be relishing the chance to get back on it at Croft.

In the Leon Cupra R class it’s a totally different story. After the first race at Croft there’s a possible four other drivers that could usurp joint leaders Freddy Nordstrom (Advent Motorsport) and Harry Vaulkhard (Triple R/Volkis Boozer’s) at the top of the table. Nordstrom has always looked quick in qualifying but was struggling to make that count in races until Round 4 at Rockingham where he romped to victory. He then went to Thruxton where he took a double win making him a hot contender for the title. Vaulkhard has preferred to do things the other way around, making up for disappointing qualifying with some great racing that has seen him consistently get amongst the points. If he manages to go well in qualifying at Croft he would look a good bet to take his first win of the season. But with four other drivers hot on their tails, you may well see some shuffling in the leaderboard.

So Croft will certainly be entertaining. With two seperate championships lining up together on the grid and competing in the same race, and where one has a runaway leader while the other is too close to call, spectators should certainly be in for a feast of motorsport action. With its mix of technical corners and flat-out sections, Croft isn’t the sort of circuit that panders to the predictable. Prepare yourselves for a very special weekend of racing in the 2007 Blaupunkt SEAT Cupra Championship
