Bio Fuelled Aston Claims Pole for First 2-Hour British GT Race
02 June
2007
The number 1 Barwell Motorsport Aston Martin DBRS9 of Jonny Cocker
and Paul Drayson will head the grid for tomorrows 2-hour race. With
Cocker at the wheel, the bio fuelled Aston Martin powered around the
1.9 mile Snetterton track in a time of 1m09.897 in the second 15-minute
session, 0.067 seconds faster than the CiM Ferrari 430 of Hector Lester
and Stephane Daoudi.
Jonny Cocker and Paul Drayson have scored three
podium finishes from four races but, unlike their Barwell Motorsport
team mates, have yet to step onto the top step of the podium in 2007.
Jonny
Cocker: "With the two hour race this weekend it meant that
everyone could run two sets of tyres in qualifying. Looking at the
times there is quite a variation between the sessions and with my first
run I wasn't very happy, I didn't get the best out of the tyres so
having another go in the second session definitely helped. So really
pleased to be on pole, a fantastic result and definitely the perfect
place to start from. Having EEMS sponsoring the weekend and having
their car on pole is absolutely perfect."
The GTC pole went to
the RSS Performance Porsche 996 of Graeme Mundy and Jamie Smyth. The
Beechdean Motorsport Ferrari missed both 15-minute qualifying sessions
due to a gearbox problem which the team reported would be fixed before
tomorrow’s race.
