Cupra Champion Tom Back on Board for Oulton Park
15
June 2007
Tom Boardman, the
2005 SEAT Cupra Champion, will return to the series at Oulton Park
(June 23/24) in a New Leon Cupra. Racing for the Triple R team, Boardman
will be eligible to score points as he looks to compete in all of the
remaining rounds in the 2007 Blaupunkt SEAT Cupra Championship.
“Tom’s
missed four race weekends and eight races, so knows he won’t
be able to win the Championship, but that’s not his aim,” said
team manager John Boardman. “He’ll certainly be looking
to get a few race wins, and as Oulton Park is his local circuit he’s
feeling confident.”
CMS Motorsport will also run a new driver,
Andy Neate. The 32-year old driver from Aylesbury in Buckinghamshirewill
compete in the Leon Cupra R Class – which means he’ll be
in a car he’s familiar with, having raced in the 2004 SEAT Cupra
Championship. This also means that the Cupra starting grid at Oulton
Park looks set to be a record breaking 23 cars.
Jonathan Adam (Total
Control Racing) continues to impress in the New Leon Cupra Class, having
recorded a race victory at every race meeting so far. With 51 points
between him and second placed Fulvio Mussi (Total Control Racing),
the other drivers have their work cut out to stop him running away
with the title. But as Croft proved, Adam is not invincible with Oli
Wilkinson (Sureterm Direct/CMS Motorsport) having taken a victory in
Round 7. Alan Blencowe (Triple R), Carl Breeze (Norfolk Blue Chip/CMS
Motorsport), Neil Waterworth (Total Control Racing) and Gareth Nixon
(Nixon Motorsport) are all waiting in the wings too, ready to pounce
on any mistake by Adam and climb closer to him in the standings. It’s
only the half way point of the season so there’s everything left
to fight for.
Ian Churchill (Churchill Motorsport) tops the Leon Cupra
R Class. Statistically young Freddy Nordstrom (Advent Motorsport) is
the pace setter though, having set an unequally four fastest laps so
far this season, although the likes of Harry Vaulkhard (Volkis Boozer'z/Triple
R) and Mike Doble (Doble Motorcycles) current sit just ahead of him
in the standings. Adrian Churchill (Churchill Motorsport) is also within
touching distance of the leading pack and barring any incidents at
Oulton Park should be looking for a decent number of points to get
right back amongst them.
Oulton Park is a circuit most drivers enjoy
with plenty of scope for all out racing. Both classes will provide
the crowds with an exciting spectacle, especially if Tim Bevan (Beaver
Metals/Pyro Motorsport) has anything to do with it. His Leon Cupra
R sported a new orange paintjob at Croft making it impossible to miss,
although his gung-ho style of driving often proves enough to get all
eyes on him.
