Midlands Circuit Next Stop for BTCC
27
June 2007
There are now less than three weeks to go before Britain’s premier
motor racing series – the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship – headlines
at the Donington Park circuit in Leicestershire on Sunday 15 July.
The
BTCC could not be arriving at the Midlands venue at a more dramatic
moment, with Italy’s Fabrizio Giovanardi and Briton Jason Plato
separated by just one point at the top of the table.
And with Donington enjoying an excellent location – just minutes
from junctions 23A and 24 of the M1 motorway by East Midlands Airport – BTCC
race day is expected to draw a bumper crowd. Indeed, tens of thousands
of fans from across the region and neighbouring cities of Birmingham,
Derby, Leicester and Nottingham are likely to flock to the historic
Donington circuit for what will be the BTCC’s only visit of 2007.
The fixture marks something of a home event for a number of the high-profile
teams and drivers in the BTCC, chiefly reigning champion Matt Neal
(Droitwich), new race-winner Mat Jackson (Henley-in-Arden) and his
family’s Jacksons MSport BMW team, front-runner Mike Jordan and
his Eurotech Honda squad (Sutton Coldfeld), rising star Adam Jones
(Solihull) and Richard Marsh (Ashbourne), who not only drives for but
owns the Coventry-based A-Tech Alfa Romeo team.
The event is also dear to the heart of the BTCC’s pro-active
title sponsor Dunlop whose UK headquarters is based nearby at Fort
Dunlop in Birmingham. Across the region, Dunlop and its group of companies
employ some 2,000 people.
An 11-race bill, including the latest three BTCC rounds, awaits the
crowds at Donington on 15 July, with the on-track action scheduled
to start at 9.10am. Adult race day tickets can be purchased for just £20.00
via the Donington website or by calling
the circuit on 01332 819505.
That price includes access to the popular Pit Lane Walkabout session
when the public is invited into the Donington pit lane to meet the
teams and drivers for autographs, photos and plenty of great giveaways.
Admission for children aged 15 and under is FREE.
