Shedden Secures BTCC Pole Position at Donington
14 July 2007
Scotland’s Gordon Shedden has set the pole position time in
today’s (Saturday) Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship
qualifying session at the Donington Park circuit in Leicestershire.
The 28-year-old from Dalgety Bay, driving a Team Halfords Honda Civic,
achieved top spot for tomorrow’s starting grid for the second
time in three race meetings with a best lap time of 1m13.486s.
Lining up alongside him on the front row of the grid will be SEAT driver
Darren Turner with a best time of 1m13.554s. Third was Shedden’s
team-mate, the reigning champion Matt Neal with a time of 1m13.628s.
But there were problems for the two chief title protagonists Fabrizio
Giovanardi and Jason Plato whose cars are both carrying significant
success ballast due to their championship positions.
Italian Giovanardi’s Vauxhall Vectra suffered engine problems
and he was left stranded in 15th. Plato, who is just one point behind
Giovanardi, was back in ninth in his SEAT Leon.
Vauxhall’s woes were further compounded when its British driver
Tom Chilton’s car failed the weight check and was relegated to
the back of the 23-car grid.
