19 December 2007
Silverstone Circuits Limited is delighted to
confirm that it has today (Wednesday 19 December) agreed terms to licence
the organisation and promotion of the annual Silverstone Classic event
to Motion Works UK Limited for the next five years (2008 – 2012
inclusive).
Motion Works will take over the responsibility for the organisation,
management and promotion of the Silverstone Classic from Silverstone
Circuits Ltd who, since 2005, have been promoting the event themselves.
Richard
Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, commented, “Silverstone
remains totally committed to the Silverstone Classic and will continue
its interest in the event. We will also provide full backing to the
special Steering Group that is being established. The Silverstone Classic
is one of the leading classic car events on the motor sport calendar
and we are confident that the event will continue to go from strength
to strength under the guidance of Motion Works UK Limited.”
“This
is a very exciting addition to our growing portfolio of motor sport
events” said Roger Etcell, Managing Director of Motion Works
UK Limited. “All the team are looking forward to working, on
behalf of Silverstone Circuits and the British Racing Drivers’ Club,
towards further developing this important annual festival which celebrates
motor sport through the decades at The Home of British Motor Racing.”
A
record crowd of 41,000 gathered at Silverstone to witness a feast of
world class nostalgic motor racing at the 2007 Silverstone Classic
which featured twenty two races, spanning eight decades of motor sport
and motoring, and covered an amazing variety of single-seater racing
cars, sportscars and saloon cars.
The 2008 Silverstone Classic, taking
place on 25-26-27 July, will celebrate 60 years of Silverstone, to
mark the diamond anniversary of the circuit’s first ever meeting
- the 1948 British Grand Prix.
Motion Works UK will shortly announce
their plans for the future development of the event.
