Clark and O’Neill Head Team RPM’s 2008 British GT Challenge
11 January 2008
British Touring Car race winner Paul O’Neill and Porsche Carrera
Cup front runner Steve Clark have signed for Team RPM and will front
the Banbury based teams effort to retain the Avon Tyres British GT
driver’s title that it won in 2007 with Bradley Ellis and Alex
Mortimer.
The driver pairing made an impressive British GT debut in the Team
RPM Viper at Croft last September, finishing 4th and 6th in the two
60-minute races. Their efforts didn’t go unnoticed by Team Principle
Robin Mortimer. “Steve and Paul did an excellent job at Croft
in a completely unfamiliar car. We are delighted to have them onboard
for 2008 and I believe they are genuine title contenders.”
Paul O’Neill, who lives in Northamptonshire, said: “The
Viper is certainly nothing like the front wheel drive touring cars
I’m used to. It is a scary car to drive, so much power and torque,
but after six laps at Croft I felt right at home and really enjoyed
myself. I pleased to be driving for the reigning British GT champions,
but I don’t feel that there is any pressure on Steve and myself.
Podiums are a realistic goal but the car is capable of winning the
championship and we’ll do the best job we can. It should do the
business and I’m looking forward to working with everyone at
RPM.”
Steve Clark from Worcester said: “I’m pleased to be racing
with Robin Mortimer and Team RPM in British GT this season. I’ve
raced with the team for many years in Porsche but I feel Paul and I
have a real opportunity to make our mark in this championship in a
championship winning car. The Avon Tyres British GT Championship is
going to extremely tough this year but we’ve already proven at
Croft that we can run at the front end and with the support of the
team the goal is to win races and challenge for the title.”
