Hitech's F3 Champ Secures F1 Testing Role
05 February 2008
Hitech Racing’s Marko Asmer, who dominated last season’s
Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series, has been confirmed
as the BMW Sauber F1 test driver for 2008.
Estonian Asmer, who scorched to 11 race wins from 22 races for the
Buckingham-based team, underwent a successful programme of tests in
Spain during which he impressed the F1 team with his technical feedback.
Hitech Racing Team Principal David Hayle was understandably delighted
with the news: “It’s great news for Marko, he totally deserves
the drive after his dominance last season and everybody at Hitech Racing
is delighted to have helped a young, talented driver on his way into
Formula One.
“We always knew Marko had the ability, which was the reason we
took him in last season but there are a lot of good drivers out there
and it takes a special driver to get an opportunity like this. Marko
is just that."
Asmer’s progression into Formula One is not the only driver to
have been helped by Hitech Racing. “Marko is the first driver
we’ve directly got into F1, but over the years there have been
a number of drivers we’ve helped progress up the motor racing
ladder and it gives the team a great sense of achievement. Hopefully
over the course of 2008 we can continue that trend and help other up
and coming drivers fulfil their racing aspirations.”
Hitech Racing has already confirmed the signing of Briton Max Chilton
alongside Austrian Walter Grubmüller and expects to announce the
final driver shortly.
