MG Trio Focus on Brands Hatch
01 May 2003
The British Touring Car Championship action continues this weekend as
the MG ZS's of Anthony Reid, Colin Turkington and Warren Hughes head
South for rounds 3 & 4 at Brands Hatch.
Following the first race in Ireland at Mondello Park,
the MG Sport & Racing Team will be looking for an improved performance
on what has traditionally been a favoured circuit for the MG ZS. A win
here last year and the fastest lap at the first official testing session
means that Warren Hughes will be looking to build on his recent success
at the track. Warren commented: "It is important that we come away
from Brands having clawed back some of what was lost at Mondello. Thankfully
the car is fast and again seems very well suited to the characteristics
of Brands. If we could repeat the results of last season's race at Brands
that would be ideal. I'm not taking anything for granted though because
the championship is tough and we are going to have to be at the top
of our game to get the right result. A win or two is what I want though."
Anthony Reid also collected silverware at Brands Hatch
last year and will be trying to capitalise on the fact that he will
be running 24kg lighter than some of his colleagues. Anthony said: "After
Mondello we'll be looking to turn things around. I was particularly
encouraged by our improved pace in Ireland but I'll be wanting to turn
that into positive race results this weekend."
Colin Turkington, who recently posted second fastest
time at the BTCC test at Thruxton, is determined to put the troubles
of Mondello Park well and truly behind him. Colin said: "I'm looking
forward to Brands Hatch with a renewed confidence and optimism. I performed
well at the BTCC test here last month and qualified fourth and fifth
in the corresponding rounds last year. I'll be looking to the strength
of the MG ZS to improve my position this time around."
Kim Johnson, director, MG Sport & Racing said: "The
chassis of the MG ZS has a tradition of being well suited to the Indy
Circuit at Brands Hatch. In 2002 the circuit provided us with the highlight
of season with a double win and we'll certainly be working hard towards
a repeat performance. We have the opportunity to qualify well and post
some positive results."
