Regulations overview - When
BBC Top Gear's Richard Hammond tried off road motorsport in 2003, he
described the experience as being "fast in a whole new way!"
Thanks to a fairly relaxed set of technical regulations virtually anything
goes in the prototype class making the sport an ideal showcase for innovative
engineers. The top prototype cars are quick enough to out-gun a WRC
Car, but are also able to traverse incredible terrain at high speed.
If driving is more important to you than engineering, the Production
Cup and Super Production Cup allow limited modifications which mean
that the cars, though varied, are all very equal. Costs and a level
playing field are further controlled by the use of the Goodyear Wrangler
MT/R control tyre, which all competitors must use.
