Series Overview - Splitting from long-time partner series, the ETCC/WTCC for 2006, the FIA GT Championship season has been limited to ten rounds at the request of the teams. The new events will retain the 500km / 3 hour race format and be branded at most events as the Supercar 500.

Highlights of the season will be the return of BMS Scuderia Italia, with two Aston Martin DBR9s, and the British round to again be contested for the RAC Tourist Trophy following a successful running in its centenary year in 2005.
